Weight Loss for YoYo People

Did you ever consider yourself a yoyo?I recently took a book out of the library written by some people at Duke University, called The Duke Diet. You can find the website at the Duke diet website. Of course it was on weight loss, one of my favorite topics; this is because I love food, I love the science of weight loss, and it is always on the top of my mind. I have always had to be careful of being mindful about what I eat and and how much I eat and my efforts in exercise. This is mainly because of the fact that I yoyo, or that I am a yoyo; I am not sure if yoyo is a noun or a verb.Anyway, it is a fantastic book, and the first tip that I have applied is to make a graph of my weight on a daily basis. This is mainly to show the variations from day to day. It is beneficial to me for the reason that I become acquainted with my weight on a day to day basis with no allowance for denial. I believe the authors feel that this will show the dieter (or anyone for that matter!) the NORMAL ups and downs of our weight, or as they put it, “weight constantly fluctuates.”This charting can show a bigger picture. A month’s worth of graphing can be quite illuminating. The way that I did my first graph, and I may change it after I fill this one up, is to place the date across the bottom of the graph paper at each vertical line. Next I placed the numeric value for my weight going up the paper at the horizontal lines. I started with the highest weight at the bottom of the paper, and skipped a line between each pound because my scale is very obviously able to measure in half pounds, as noted by the jumping back and forth between whole digits.Next time I may place the higher weight at the top, and let the numbers go down, so the direction of how much I weigh will go down, verses up. With my original version the line goes up if I were to lose weight. I prefer it the other way around, seeing the line go down, as in my weight going down.

Lorraine,I recommend that you look into this new PBS series on health and fitness.

PBS producers are calling it “next generation” programming

It doesn’t feature beautiful bodies (Carmen Electra/Denise Austin) in a synchronized workout routine. Instead, “The Fitness Show” is the first medically based fitness program in television history to apply science to exercise. The host is part motivator and part science teacher. He uses sensors and 3-D image-capturing technology to show viewers in real time what goes on underneath the skin during exercise. As a result we see how to avoid injury and get better results from exercise. The whole point, like your evaluation of the Duke Diet, is to show people that all exercise is not created equal. Fitness programs developed based on scientific evidence can improve your health and yield better results in less time

Hi Jamie, I am looking forward to seeing this. Is there a way to get more info? I googled pbs and the fitness show, but didn’t see any listings. Is it local to Oregon? Don’t leave us dangling!
    Sincerely,
    Lorraine

    Great question Lorraine!

PBS will distribute “The Fitness Show” nationally to member stations for broadcast starting in the fall of 2007. Filming began in 2006 and is scheduled to wrap in June.

The half-hour program is being distributed as an hour block along with the PBS hit Second Opinion. Both medical programs are produced by Jamie Hammond, Emmy Award winning producer of Bill Nye the Science Guy. Check to see if your local PBS station currently broadcasts Second Opinion.

The official website of The Fitness Show is being created now and should be live by July 2007. Colin Hoobler the host of The Fitness Show has a great blog where you can ask him questions about fitness and get the inside scoop on The Fitness Show. We’d love it if you could link to it. http://www.thefitnessshow.blogspot.com/

The producers will post video of episodes on the blog before you can see it anywhere else. Colin will also provide regular updates about the show.

Remember all exercise is not created equal!

    I hope I haven’t left you dangling.

    Sincerely,
    Jamie

    p90x…

Most people are used to seeing ads and heavy marketing messages promising to do this and get you in top athletic shape. A more conventional, low- risk strategy is preferred for most people; it’ s safe and will let you build muscle fast, although not …
